Geek Artist Team Up for the First ‘Humble Music Bundle’

Gamers are more than likely fimilar with The Humble Bundle. HumbleBundle.com organizes bundles of ‘digital stuff’ and offers them to the public in a pay-what-you-want format. For as little as $0.01 you can get a bundle of digital goods from independent content creators. The site allows you to distribute your payment in any way you see fit; You can give your entire payment to the developers of the games (or all to a specific developer), Give it all to Charity (the Electronic Frontier Foundation & Child’s Play), or tip Humble Bundle. This way you can know exactly where your money is going, and you know that the people creating your product are getting your money/support, not a corporation representing them.

Until recently The Humble Bundle had focused on gaming, but they’ve now ventured into the world of music. 6 artist have joined Humble Bundle to distribute albums through the site. MC Frontalot, They Might Be Giants, Christoper Tin, Hitoshi Sakimoto, OK Go and Jonathan Coulton are all offering an album in the first Humble Music Bundle.

Once you pay for the bundle you be given a link to a download page where you’ll be able to download high quality MP3 or FLAC versions of the albums. All the files are DRM-free, so you can use them with any program or device that plays MP3 or FLAC files.

While you can get Favoritism (MC Frontalot), Album Raises New and Troubling Questions (They Might Be Giants), Calling All Dawns (Christopher Tin), Best of Valkyria Chronicles (Hitoshi Sakimoto) and Jonathan Coulton’s Greatest Hit (Plus 13 Other Songs) (Jonathan Coulton) for as little as $0.01, in order to get Twelve Remixes of Four Songs by OK Go you’ll have to pay more than the average price paid for the bundle. Currently the average price sits at $8.20.

The Humble Bundle project has been an undeniable success, and teaming with some of the biggest ‘geek’ artists is a no-brainer for the site. In just a little under two days over 32,000 bundles have been sold for a total of  nearly $264,000.  You can head over to HumbleBundle.com and get some great music, support the artist and help out some very noble charities right now! The Humble Music Bundle is available until August 10th.
