Production has already started on the next ‘Riddick’ movie, and if Vin Diesel has his way it’s going to be an ‘R’ rated movie. This would mark the second film with Riddick as the main focus (after being introduced in the criminally underrated Pitch Dark), the first having been released in 2004.
While the 2004 film did respectably, Diesel has since stated that the studio made the decision to cut the film down to a PG-13, so as to attract a wider audience, and that he felt that hurt the film. Now, with Diesel deep in production on the next chapter of Riddick’s story, he had a message to all fans worried about the film being watered down.
“You know the Director, the crew and the cast are making something special, when you find yourself drawn to the set… even when you aren’t in the particular scene they are shooting. It has been a long and arduous road, to launch this Rated “R” Riddick, and everyday of magic only proves, how worth it the journey has been.”
Personally, I’m a big Vin Diesel fan. While most people write him off as just an ‘action movie star’, those that take the time to hear him speak about his films/roles will find that he’s very passionate about film and about developing his characters. I was a huge fan of Pitch Black & The Chronicles of Riddick, and after hearing this news I’m even more excited for the next Riddick chapter.
