No, I’m not calling it odd, that’s just the title. ODD? is an upcoming anthology of new, newly-translated, and reprinted fiction, edited by Ann & Jeff VanderMeer.
To me, Jeff VanderMeer is “The Fungus Guy”. I’m one of those people who read books while walking down the street, and while I carried around VanderMeer’s Finch, the most common stranger conversation I found myself in began with a person reading aloud from the cover. ”Fungal…noir?” they’d say. And I’d launch into a scarily enthusiastic summary of the book, the preceding two books set in the same location, and “fungal noir” as a genre. I used a lot of gestures. I don’t think I helped sell any books, so I’ll keep this short: you can trust VanderMeer to deliver on some seriously strange and very engaging fiction.
ODD? features a collection of authors for whom eclectic isn’t a descriptor so much as a way of life. I’m especially excited to see on the list Nalo Hopkinson (Skin Folk, The Salt Roads), and Caitlin Kiernan (Threshold, The Red Tree, and more than a dozen issues of the comic book The Dreaming).
Its creators also created and scored this animated short. Watching it makes the book cover 100% more awesome.
The ODD? anthology can be purchased in e-book and/or print form from Jeff VanderMeer’s site, or for the Kindle from Amazon.com.
